Using Journaling to Process Feelings

We had another great Check-in Meetup last night. One of my favorite parts of this meetups is the exchange of ideas regarding creating a sustainable and fulfilling practice. A topic we discussed was techniques to use when you want to use a journal to help you process feelings but the idea starts to feel overwhelming.

Ideas that were shared:

  • Looking on the internet for worksheets to help with processing. The only ones I found were geared towards kids but I plan to keep looking.

  • Putting a number to how you were feeling that day, 1 being terrible and 10 being fantastic. Although feelings are more complicated than this and positive and negative feelings can coexist, this might be a helpful starting point.

  • Using a simple graphic I learned from my mom, a psychotherapist, which I call the Association Wheel. I created a video to show how easy it is to use.
